Integrated LiDAR, Photogrammetry, and MBES Survey for a New Boat Ramp Development

Q-Offshore, in close collaboration with TSS successfully completed a series of Hydrographic and Topographic Surveys for a newly developed boat ramp project, combining LiDAR, photogrammetry, and multibeam bathymetric data to deliver a highly accurate 3D representation of the site.

The survey scope involved integrating aerial LiDAR and photogrammetric datasets with underwater MBES (Multibeam Echosounder) data collected using the Norbit system. This approach provided seamless coverage from land to seabed, an essential requirement for modern Hydrospatial survey applications and coastal infrastructure validation.

Over a three-week period, the survey was repeated three times, enabling precise monitoring of dredging and filling activities. By comparing each survey epoch against the design model, QOffshore’s data processing team quantified actual and theoretical volumes with a vertical accuracy within ±100 mm, verifying conformance to design specifications and material movement estimates.

This integrated methodology allowed the project team to produce a single, high-resolution surface model that captured both the above-water topography and sub-tidal bathymetry. The result was a fully unified dataset, ready for engineering assessment, progress verification, and as-built documentation.

Beyond the technical success, the project exemplified what QOffshore and TSS strive for—precision, innovation, and collaboration. The field team took great satisfaction in achieving remarkable accuracy through synchronized acquisition and processing workflows. The project once again demonstrated the effectiveness of combining LiDAR, photogrammetry, and MBES surveys for coastal and marine infrastructure monitoring, setting a benchmark for future Hydrographic Survey projects.
