Client Representative – Hydrographic, Geophysical & Geotechnical Surveys / Offshore Projects

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Client Representative to oversee hydrographic, geophysical, and geotechnical survey operations on behalf of our client in offshore projects. This role ensures that contractors comply with project specifications, industry standards, and HSE requirements while delivering high-quality survey data. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in offshore survey operations, positioning, and data quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

Project Supervision & Compliance

  1. Act as the primary liaison between the client, contractors, and offshore teams to ensure project requirements and expectations are met.
  2. Oversee offshore survey operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards (IHO, IMCA, OGP, ISO 9001) and client specifications.
  3. Monitor survey vessel operations, ensuring proper equipment setup, calibration, and performance of GNSS, multibeam echosounders, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, and CPT/Borehole rigs.
  4. Conduct audits and inspections on survey vessels and equipment before mobilization and during operations.
  5. Ensure that Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols are strictly followed throughout the project.

Survey Oversight & Data Quality Assurance

  1. Review and validate survey methodologies, acquisition techniques, and data processing workflows for hydrographic, geophysical, and geotechnical surveys.
  2. Ensure real-time quality control (QC) and integrity of acquired data, including bathymetric, sub-seabed, and soil analysis data.
  3. Identify and resolve operational issues, advising contractors on best practices and corrective actions.
  4. Oversee geophysical and geotechnical sampling, ensuring adherence to industry and client standards.
  5. Assist in seabed hazard assessments, pipeline/cable route surveys, offshore wind farm site investigations, and other offshore survey applications.

Communication & Reporting

  1. Prepare and submit detailed daily progress reports, non-conformance reports, and final project reports.
  2. Maintain clear and professional communication between all project stakeholders, including onshore management, clients, and survey teams.
  3. Participate in project planning meetings, risk assessments, and safety briefings.
  4. Review and approve contractor deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements before submission.
  5. Recommend process improvements for future survey projects, focusing on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and data accuracy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Marine Geoscience, Geophysics, or a related field.
  • Extensive offshore experience in hydrographic, geophysical, and geotechnical surveys.
  • Prior experience as a Client Representative, Party Chief, or Offshore Project Manager.
  • Strong knowledge of offshore survey techniques, including multibeam bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, sidescan sonar, magnetometry, CPT, and borehole investigations.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard survey software such as Qimera, Hypack, CARIS, EIVA, SonarWiz, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with GIS applications, data interpretation, and reporting standards.
  • Strong geodetic knowledge, including coordinate transformations and tidal corrections.
  • Experience with ROV, AUV, USV, and deepwater survey techniques is an advantage.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions in offshore environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Certifications & Requirements

  1. Valid offshore survival (BOSIET/FOET) and offshore medical (OGUK or equivalent).
  2. GWO certification (if applicable to offshore wind projects).
  3. Full, unrestricted work rights in [Country/Region].
  4. Ability to work offshore on rotation schedules and travel as required
