Hydrographic Surveyor
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Hydrographic Surveyor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and processing hydrographic and geospatial surveys, ensuring high-quality data acquisition, analysis, and reporting. The role requires expertise in hydrographic survey equipment, geodetic principles, and data processing to support various marine and offshore projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Survey Planning & Execution:
- Design and implement hydrographic survey plans based on project requirements.
- Conduct bathymetric, geophysical, and positioning surveys using multibeam, single-beam, and LiDAR systems.
- Operate and calibrate hydrographic survey equipment, including GNSS, motion sensors, tide gauges, and sound velocity profilers.
- Ensure accurate geodetic positioning and coordinate reference system management.
2. Data Acquisition & Processing
- Collect and process hydrographic and geospatial data using industry-standard software (e.g., Qimera, Hypack, CARIS, EIVA, PDS2000).
- Apply corrections for tides, sound velocity, and motion compensation to improve data accuracy.
- Perform quality control (QC) checks and troubleshoot data inconsistencies.
- Generate hydrographic charts, DTMs, and reports for client deliverables
3. Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to IHO (International Hydrographic Organization) standards and project-specific survey specifications.
- Ensure compliance with HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) policies and risk assessments during fieldwork.
- Maintain proper documentation and records of survey operations.
4. Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work closely with survey teams, project managers, and clients to meet project goals.
- Communicate survey results and findings through technical reports and presentations.
- Support training and mentoring of junior surveyors and survey technicians.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
- Certified Hydrographic Surveyor (e.g., IHO/FIG/ICA Cat A or Cat B) is preferred.
- Proven experience in hydrographic surveying, offshore operations, and data processing.
- Proficiency in survey software such as Qimera, Hypack, CARIS, EIVA, or similar.
- Strong understanding of geodesy, coordinate transformations, and tide corrections.
- Experience with ROV, AUV, and USV surveys is an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in offshore, nearshore, and remote environments with extended field rotations as required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Certifications & Requirements
- Valid offshore survival (BOSIET/FOET) and medical certification (OGUK or equivalent).
- Full, unrestricted work rights in [Country/Region].
